The newspaper was published every Wednesday with a maximum
circulation of 1,800. They went from setting type to offset in the
late 1960s. Many people worked for the Fort Pierre Times
including Edna Dirksen. The newspaper was located in other
buildings in Fort Pierre over its 63-year existence and was the
result of a merger with the Stanley County Homestead, Leslie
Pioneer, Sioux Stock Journal, and Stock Growers News. It
became the Pierre Times in 1971 and was published by the
Capital Journal.
The original building is brick and was enclosed with a wooden
framework. The Gaugemaiers lived upstairs and operated the Fort
Pierre Times newspaper on the first floor. The building is now
used for residential apartments.
The Fort Pierre Times was published from 1918-1981 in Fort
Pierre and besides the Gaugemaiers, Marv Hallock operated the
newspaper during 1954 and into 1971 and the newspaper was
located in a building between Bad River Furniture (Fischer Bros.
